For this project, I worked with Sandra Marten to transform her new construction garden apartment in Portland, Oregon into a space that reflects her vibrant personality and eco-conscious lifestyle.
The goal was to infuse character, incorporate sustainable and vintage elements, and maximize the small footprint for effortless entertaining. Through thoughtful design choices, we balanced bold colors and patterns, layered textures, and functional organization to create a home that feels both curated and inviting.
Brief
This project included spatial planning for the entire interior as well as the patio. Custom millwork and storage/display systems were incorporated so everything has a place, from Sandra’s wine collection to her bike and garden tools. Though the footprint is small, the apartment lives large, taking advantage of what would have been dead space. It was important that the space function for Sandra’s recipe testing, restaurant planning and entertaining.
Entry
Sourced marble off-cuts in blue, cream, white, grey and brown tones from local stone distributor to smash into larger pieces and set with grout for custom oversized terrazzo.
